Love this place. We ordered the gyoza and octopus balls (ate a few before we took the picture) and they were very flavorful. We also got spicy salmon sushi and the Hawaiian roll. The sushi here is always fresh and service is phenomenal, always feel welcomed.
Overview
Akira Sushi Bistro in 20035 Ashbrook Commons Plaza #176, Ashburn, VA 20147, United States, is one of those hidden gems that keeps you coming back without you even realizing it. Walking in, you immediately notice the warm ambiance, subtle lighting, and a sense of calm that contrasts sharply with the typical hustle of Ashburnβs busy shopping areas. The interior manages to balance modern minimalism with touches of traditional Japanese aesthetics, making it a perfect spot for both casual dinners and intimate gatherings.
One of the first things that stand out here is the menu. Akira Sushi Bistro offers an impressive range of options, from classic sushi rolls to innovative fusion creations. During my last visit, I tried the signature bistro roll, which paired fresh tuna, avocado, and a light drizzle of truffle oil. The flavors were balanced perfectly, and you could tell the ingredients were top-notch. In fact, according to recent local reviews, diners consistently praise the freshness and quality of the seafood, and it aligns with data from the National Restaurant Association, which highlights that freshness is a top driver of customer satisfaction in Japanese cuisine.
Beyond sushi, the menu features cooked dishes that are equally enticing. The teriyaki salmon, prepared with a house-made glaze, is a standout for anyone who prefers a warm entrΓ©e over raw dishes. I watched the chef prepare it right in front of the open kitchen, and itβs fascinating to see the precise techniques applied-every slice, brush of sauce, and plating decision contributes to a visually stunning and flavorful dish. This experience shows a level of expertise that is often recognized by reputable culinary institutions as a hallmark of quality sushi establishments.
The bistro doesnβt just focus on food; service is equally thoughtful. The staff is attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to provide recommendations. For example, they suggested pairing a light sake with my sushi selection, which elevated the meal in ways that only a truly experienced staff can. According to surveys conducted by the American Customer Satisfaction Index, service quality in restaurants significantly impacts repeat visits, and Akira Sushi Bistro exemplifies this principle perfectly.
For those exploring Ashburn, the location is convenient, tucked within a lively plaza yet quiet enough to enjoy a peaceful meal. The seating arrangement caters to different group sizes, and private dining options are available for those seeking a more secluded experience. Whatβs particularly noteworthy is the way the restaurant maintains consistency across peak hours. Observing multiple tables over my visits, every dish arrived at the right temperature, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor, which is a testament to both the management and kitchen teamβs discipline.
Many local reviewers emphasize the value for money, noting that the quality rivals much higher-end sushi restaurants in the region. Seasonal specials frequently rotate, keeping the menu fresh and inviting repeat customers to explore new tastes. On one occasion, the chef introduced a limited-time yellowtail jalapeΓ±o roll that combined a subtle spice with citrus notes-a perfect example of culinary creativity backed by solid technique.
Overall, Akira Sushi Bistro feels like more than just a place to eat; itβs an experience. From the carefully curated menu and expert preparation to the serene ambiance and attentive service, every element works in harmony. For anyone in Ashburn or passing through 20035 Ashbrook Commons Plaza #176, this bistro offers a memorable dining experience that aligns with the highest standards of Japanese cuisine. The consistent quality, innovative dishes, and welcoming environment make it clear why this spot continues to earn rave reviews from both locals and visitors alike.

Iβve been going to this restaurant since I was younger with my family and we love it. My family and I have had nothing but good experiences both dining in and doing takeout. Sushi is fresh and they have so many special rolls to choose from. Some personal favorites have always been the Akira Moonlight and Sunlight rolls, tempura, and nabeyaki udon. The staff is so so friendly, service is quick, and atmosphere is warm and inviting. I would highly recommend trying this place if you havenβt!
Wonderful sushi restaurant! Great food and atmosphere, excellent and friendly service. We got age-dashi tofu in addition to what is pictured, but it didn't last long enough for the photo. For dine in, you also get a small salad and miso soup, both of which are delicious. Even my picky nephew loved the salad and ordered a second one!
We had a great lunch here! I ordered Spicy Tuna Roll, Salmon Roll, and California Roll, and each roll was fresh and delicious. We also tried the Chicken Yakisoba, and it did not disappoint and it was a great complement to the sushi. The service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable.
I can confidently say this is the best sushi restaurant Iβve ever been to. Everything from the fresh ingredients to the presentation and the service was outstanding. The real star of the night was the staff, they were so friendly and kind! 10/10 would reccomend
Akira has been an all time solid favorite for years. Always high quality food! The fish is fresh and they donβt use a lot of rice. The Tako Yaki was great! A must try. Great and friendly service!
Been going for ages - our go to sushi place. Pitch perfect food - great service and spotless restaurant. Just really good sushi from super nice people.
Our favorite sushi place! We say it every time we finish eating here. When we are invited somewhere else for sushi, my husband and I always miss Akira and compare it all to Akira. Their sushi is fresh, flavorful and so so pretty. There are so many different rolls to choose from, which I just love. It is always delicious with such friendly service. They are so fast, too! Their special rolls are my favorite, but the hamachi nigiri is up there as a favorite. I love the Morgan Roll and Paradise Roll, but when we dine in, I get to pick off the special board. I recently got the Red Carpet Roll and the Sunny Roll, and they became my new favorites. Tonight they presented our table with a special salmon plate. My goodness we were stunned. It tasted as pretty as it looked!!! Incredible! The dinning area is comfortable and nice. We eat here quite a bit, and I canβt recall ever being disappointed. We are in love each time we finish, happy and full. We actually do take out more often, but try to dine in when we can. We really try to take family here when they visit. Now visitors request to go here!
